Caring for communities

In addition to supporting patients and their families, UCB is involved in various philanthropic activities helping local communities.

Beside UCB employees at Seymour (Indiana) raising more than USD 85 000, UCB employees in Atlanta (Georgia) donated more than USD 40 000 to United Way.  The United Way aims to improve education, help people achieve financial stability and promote healthy lives.

Together with representatives from the Finnish epilepsy and rheumatology patient associations, the UCB Finland team participated in 2 full days of the ‘Karelia’ rowing marathon.  The joint effort aimed at raising awareness around epilepsy and rheumatoid arthritis.

The UCB employee-community has raised funds for charity through different local initiatives.

Hundreds of UCB employees from the U.S. and Belgium took part in sponsored runs in support of people living with Crohn’s disease, epilepsy and rheumatoid arthritis.  Victims of natural disasters in Haiti, Pakistan and China also benefited from UCB-organised fund-raising events, including calls for personal donations.

Our U.K. colleagues supported various local organisations.  Among many initiatives, they updated a hospital garden area for long-term sick children.  With local schools, they helped to mentor older children and also volunteering to help younger children learn to read.  At Christmas, staff donated toys for the local children’s care homes.  Our scientists donated pipettes to a University in Ghana.

Some of our employees also volunteered for humanitarian projects in developing countries.  For instance, one colleague taught and supported children in a Sri-Lankan orphanage and hospital, while another colleague was part of the emergency relief team in Haiti, together with his rescue dog.
