01-Sep-2011The clock is ticking towards the deadline for the annual Excellence in Epilepsy Journalism Award, a joint initiative of the International Bureau for Epilepsy (IBE) and UCB.

We know writing about sensitive, and sometimes complex, health issues like epilepsy can be a balancing act – it’s not always easy to produce engaging journalism which is evidence-based and responsibly written.
That’s why, for the third successive year, we at UCB are pleased to reward top-class media coverage of an issue to which we attach the highest importance.
The competition is open to journalists from across the world who have produced informed and compelling news and feature stories on epilepsy, published between 30th October 2010 and 30th November 2011.
There are five criteria by which entries will be assessed. So, what are the judges looking for? Well, raising awareness and understanding of epilepsy is essential, and giving a voice to people with epilepsy is just as important.
Work which is conceptually or visually innovative or creative will also be highly rated, along with articles which are well structured, well researched and compelling. The judges will also look for responsible use of language when reporting or writing on epilepsy.
